New Mexico Lobos SG Elijah Brown announced Monday afternoon on his Twitter account that he plans to graduate transfer from the UNM basketball program.
“I want to say thank you to Lobo Nation for a 3 years that was full of love and support,” Brown said in his statement. “I have to do what is best for me at the end of the day which is why I will be moving on from UNM for my graduate year.”
Head Coach of the Lobos, Craig Neal, issued a statement as well after the news broke saying that he met with Brown, and Brown gave his decision to transfer to Coach Neal at that meeting. “We are grateful of the contributions that Elijah has made to our basketball program,” Neal said. “He has matured and developed over the last three years, which led him to being one of the top Mountain West (Conference) players the last two seasons.”
This 2016-17 season, Brown averaged 18.8 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game, and 3.1 assists per game. Brown did not specify in his statement if he has chosen the school he will transfer to. Also, Anthony Mathis has given his intent to transfer from the program, and @RealWeeklyHowl on Twitter reports that Sam Logwood could be transferring as well.
