While other students watch Agents of SHIELD or stress bake lemon bars on a Tuesday night, the LCHS hockey team is getting their goal on, practicing from 8:00 until 9:15 every week at CooLLoop outpost arena on Tramway. Putting on nearly 60 pounds of equipment and pads, LCHS hockey players from six different high schools on the east side of town take each other to task in preparation for weekend games. This year they have won four games, lost seven and have one tie. Check that!
The LCHS team is one of only two high school hockey teams in Albuquerque. Cibola High hosts the other team, made up of players from schools on the west side of town.
There are 13 other teams in the league, which includes teams from Colorado and Texas. LCHS travels to play teams from Durango, Coronado, Odessa, and Amarillo. They also play other high schools from around the state like Santa Fe and Los Alamos. They have five home games in the next eight days, one of them being the senior night game against the Santa Fe Blue Jackets.
Make plans to hang with the cool kids on Friday night! Let’s get out there and support LCHS hockey!
