The popular shaved ice company, Rita’s, started on Juan Tabo and recently had their grand opening here in the La Cueva area. A huge swarm of high school students have been going to the newest hot spot for a perfect treat. If you need to cool off, this is the place to go. Rita’s has a wide variety of treats for you to choose from such as shaved ice, milkshakes, and even donuts. They also have a wide variety of flavors, like blue raspberry, Dr. Pepper, and cake batter.
I went to Rita’s just the other day and enjoyed it. The location is very convenient and easy to find. When you walk in, you get a breeze of cool air and welcomed by employees. First, you pick what treat you would like; I got the gelati. Then you choose the flavor of ice and custard. Mine was blue raspberry and vanilla.
The custard is very sweet and smooth. Then you dip your spoon into the ice and get a blast of flavor. The treat is altogether great. There is so much flavor and you feel refreshed after just the first bite.
Rita’s just recently started serving homemade donuts. I ordered a plain donut with sprinkles on top. I was very excited to see how they would taste. I took a bite and it was soft and fluffy; although, I did not like the taste. It tasted like lemons, which I am not a fan of. I tried another, this time chocolate. Hoping for a better taste, I took a bite. The taste was still lemon, but covered in chocolate.
Overall, the experience was great. I loved the shaved ice part of the treat, but I do not recommend the donuts, unless you’re a fan of lemons!
Located at 7610 Carmel NE and in the Shops at Mountain Run, 5809 Juan Tabo NE.
Regular ice is $2.99. Regular gelati is $3.99. Custom iced and topped donuts start at $1.29.
This is a great review! It gives both the positive and negative comments about the restaurant. It discusses their variety of desserts and flavors, too. This article had a great introduction and conclusion, and made me want to go try out the place myself.

I always see this cute place with the umbrellas outside with the Rita’s logo. I’ve been curious to go and try as I’ve never tried anything like it before. The workers look so friendly and it is so conveniently placed. Hopefully when school gets out I can try this for myself.

There is a Rita’s down by UNM that used to be the only location in town and it was a pain to travel to, (even though the treats were amazing.) Now you say that there is a new one that tastes just as fantastic? And is close to La Cueva? Sounds perfect to me.

My mouth was watering just thinking about Rita’s! Thanks Desiree for giving me something to look forward to during finals. I can’t wait to treat my self to some frozen custard after all of testing is over.

Thank you for doing this review of Rita’s. I have been waiting to try this location for a while now. I will be sure to stay clear of the donuts because I am not a fan of lemons either.

Rita’s shaved ice I think is so good. The first time I went to Rita’s, it was very clean and I got welcomed with employees also. My favorite flavor is the blueberry. I love how you take a bite and it melts in your mouth. I think this is a great place to enjoy shaved ice or whatever you desire with family and friends. This place is good for studying with friends.

As a valued customer at Rita’s both locations, I am very happy that they added donuts to their menu at their Carmel location. Although, I don’t agree with the writer about the fact that the donuts had a lemon taste in them. When I was recently there at their Carmel location, I ordered a chocolate chip donut. There was no lemon taste, all I tasted was the chocolate. But other than that, this was a greatly written review.
