Ditching the Dance?

Winterball is right around the corner, and although most students are going to get dolled up for the dance, others are choosing to stay in for the night. Sometimes you just don’t feel like going out, maybe you don’t have a date, or maybe dances just aren’t your thing. If you’re one of these people, know that you’re not the only one who’s deciding to ditch the dance.

Sophomore Kelli Ingle is one of the students who isn’t in the Winterball spirit this year. “Winterball is more couple-y, so it will be awkward. I don’t want to spend money of something when I don’t have a date,” Kelli said. Winterball is a Sadie Hawkins dance, so the girl is supposed to ask the guy. If you’re a girl and have nobody to ask, it can definitely be a little awkward if you’re not with a big group of girl friends.

Other people are also choosing to do something fun with friends instead of going to the dance. Kalie Gonzales, sophomore, is choosing to have a big sleepover with a bunch of her friends on the night of Winterball. “Last year was boring, and none of my friends want to go either. I might have a group sleepover with like 12 people instead,” stated Kalie.

Anti-Winterball is when you decide to do something else instead of the dance. If you’re planning on doing this, you can still ask someone by using a clever poster about doing something alternative! Although Winterball is lots of fun, sometimes a dinner date, going to see a movie, or having a sleepover with friends can be just as memorable.

According to Jake Lamanna, freshman, “It’s a good night to make some guacamole and have a ‘guac in the clouds’.”
