Required reading doesn’t mean required boredom with The White Tiger.

The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga is the required summer reading for AP English 12. It is a satirical novel that questions morality in rural India. The novel is a retrospective account from a boy who had to survive the darkest hells of life in rural India in order to thrive in the brightest heights. The White Tiger is an effective transition into adulthood for students to experience given its very realistic, dark nature. Adiga provides very real themes applicable to life in the real world. He also highlights how harsh life truly can be.

Signing up for AP English 12, I anticipated a year full of dreadfully boring readings, but because of this summer reading, my perspective has completely changed. Unlike many other required readings for school, this novel is actually very entertaining and addictive. The novel truly leaves a mark. The White Tiger will not bore you and will start off your year in AP English 12 with excitement.
