Speech and Debate Starting the Season Great

MARSHALL MA | NEWS

La Cueva Speech and Debate team kicked off with their first official practice of the season, and the response has been overwhelming.

Their previous organizational and recruitment  meeting was standing room only of eager novices and parents. Impressively, almost all of these interested potential speakers and debaters who showed up to inquire about the club attended the first official practice showing their commitment and confirming their interest in speech and debate. The team is overjoyed to announce that La Cueva Speech and Debate now has a whopping 50 official members and is still expecting many more incoming members throughout the season.

Each of the debate divisions (Lincoln Douglas, Policy, and Public Forum) within the club gained many new members and had highly productive first practices. Unlike previous years, La Cueva’s speech and debate team is more organized and more focused than ever before.

“The team has depth with so many interested novices and experienced veterans,” said Susan Schripsema, coach.  “We have numbers, but we also need quality. That’s why we’re emphasizing good practices.”

Club officers are extremely ambitious and are already putting in the work to make this year’s team the best it can be. It really does look like La Cueva Speech and Debate is truly starting the season great, as club president Amy Lee said,  “After how much got done in this first practice, I’m very excited to see how proud this team will do La Cueva this year!”
