The DUFF Review

By Rachel Habing

In the newest teen rom-com The DUFF, Bianca is shocked when she discovers that she is the Designated Ugly Fat Friend of her social group. She enlists the help of her neighbor Wesley, a popular jock, to make her more dateable. While The DUFF may seem like an average teen movie, its extraordinary wit and humor may make it the next Mean Girls. Actors including Mia Whitman (Bianca), Robbie Amell (Wesley), and Bella Thorne (Madison) enrich the movie with their hilarious and quirky characters. The DUFF has many references to social media like Snapchat, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, and Tumblr, which makes the movie relatable for teens that can’t stay off their phones. Along with being a funny and enjoyable movie, The DUFF has a deeper message of self acceptance that is quite inspiring, even if it is a little cliché for teen movies. I recommend this movie for any teenager wanting a laugh and give it a 4 out of 5 stars.
